To take the test, you will need: Access to a broadband internet connection; sn internet-enabled device (smartphone, tablet, or computer) with a microphone, speakers, front-facing camera or webcam, and a web browser; proof of identity such as a driver's license or passport. You will want to have this on hand since you will need to show it to your telehealth proctor at eMed, LLC; an email account; your test (eMed urinary tract infection (UTI) Test Strips). Use the instructions provided with your test to connect with a telehealth proctor at eMed, LLC who will help you through the testing process. About the Test

Quest offers the eMed® UTI Telehealth Kits™ (2-pack) which includes the eMed urinary tract infection (UTI) Test Strips. These test for white blood cells (Leukocytes) and Nitrite in urine. Detection of these substances in urine aids in the screening of urinary tract infections. The UTI Test Strips are packaged individually in foil pouches with desiccant. They are for over-the-counter, home use only.

Along with 2 tests, your purchase includes online observation from a trained telehealth proctor. When you’re ready to use your test, you’ll connect live with a telehealth proctor at eMed, LLC to enable proper collection instructions, improved confidence in your results, and a medication* if prescribed by an eMed clinician.

This test may be right for you if you have any of the signs or symptoms of a urinary tract infection, listed in the 'Signs and Symptoms' section below.

This test may NOT be right for you if any of the following are true due to the Limitations of Use for this test.

The reading of UTI Test Strips results may be affected by several factors.

Your reading of the results may be affected if you have color vision deficiency (color blindness).
Dehydration may cause false positive in Nitrite and false negative in Leukocyte.
Urine with pH≥8.0 may cause false negative in Leukocyte.
You should not be using the UTI Test Strips if you are taking antibiotics.

You may get false and inaccurate results if:

You have been taking medicine or dietary supplement that may change urine color (such as drugs containing azo dyes (i.e. Pyridium®, Azo Gantrisin®, Azo Gantanol®), nitrofurantoin (Microdantin®, Furadantin®), riboflavin).
You are taking Vitamin C or multivitamin.
You have a UTI caused by bacteria that does not change nitrate to nitrite, or if your diet does not include nitrates.
When urine has not been held in the bladder for more than 4 hours.
You are taking drugs containing acetazolamide, potassium citrate, and sodium bicarbonate because your urine pH maybe ≥8.0.

A UTI may cause a variety of uncomfortable signs and symptoms, including:

Pain or burning while urinating
Frequent urination
Feeling the need to urinate despite having an empty bladder
Bloody urine
Pressure or cramping in the groin or lower abdomen

Severe symptoms of a UTI or kidney infection include:

Fever
Chills
Lower back pain or pain in the side of your back
Nausea or vomiting

What causes a urinary tract infection?

UTIs are common infections caused by microbes that enter the urinary tract, often from the skin or rectum. Bacteria are the most common cause of UTIs, and many of these infections are caused by E coli bacteria found in the bowel. Because the urethral opening is near bacteria sources in the anus and vagina, an individual’s anatomy further increases the risk of developing a UTI.

 Is a urinary tract infection and kidney infection the same?

A UTI is an infection that can occur anywhere throughout the urinary tract and usually begins in the bladder or urethra. A kidney infection, also known as pyelonephritis, is a form of urinary tract infection that occurs when bacteria travel up the ureters and into one or both kidneys. While both types of infections share some common symptoms, such as back pain and cloudy urine, kidney infections are more severe and require immediate medical attention. If left untreated, this condition may result in permanent kidney damage.

Are cystitis and a urinary tract infection the same?

Cystitis is a broad term that refers to inflammation of the bladder. A urinary tract infection is a type of cystitis caused by bacteria. Other causes of cystitis include radiation therapy, irritants, an autoimmune disorder, or a drug reaction. Cystitis symptoms include pain or burning during urination, pelvic pain, and feeling a strong urge to urinate. Some individuals also experience blood in their urine or cloudy or milky urine.

What are the risk factors for getting a UTI?

There are several factors that can increase your risk for getting a UTI, including:

Having a UTI in the past
Sexual activity, especially with a new partner
Changes in the bacteria that live inside the vagina, which can be caused by menopause or the use of spermicides
Pregnancy
Age (older adults and young children are more prone to UTIs)

No, you cannot cancel or return the eMed UTI Telehealth Kit. Tests are nonrefundable and nonreturnable.
