At-Home STD Testing

Testing for STDs at home is safe, convenient, and private. Performed regularly, it can help you stay healthy and avoid unknowingly transmitting STDs.

You have many options for at-home STD testing. The best at-home STD tests are FDA approved and evaluated for safety and accuracy with fast result turnaround times and support from health care professionals.

At-home STD testing kits should include instructions for collection and test registration, along with materials such as containers and swabs to collect and send your sample to the lab. Most at-home STD tests offer results in about five days through a secure online patient portal.

Chambersburg is a borough in and the seat of Franklin County located in south-central Pennsylvania. While all three of the most reported STDs in Franklin Country were higher in 2019, the increase in chlamydia diagnoses was minor, while the increases in gonorrhea and syphilis infections were relatively significant.

Franklin County accounts for a relatively small portion of Pennsylvania’s total chlamydia cases. Like previous years, this amount was less than 1% In 2019. Although the county did see an increase in chlamydia diagnoses in 2019, it was only about 0.5%. In comparison, Franklin County’s chlamydia infections rose nearly 17% in 2018 after dropping about 2% in 2017. Chlamydia infections were more than twice as prevalent in women as men in 2019, which hasn’t been the case since 2015 when the difference was more negligible. Females aged 15 to 24 had the greatest number of cases, making up 51.5% of the county’s total.

Gonorrhea infections in Pennsylvania have increased every year for the last five years. During this same period, Franklin County saw a 16% increase in gonorrhea cases in 2019 but had a 13% drop in 2018 and no change in the number of cases between 2014 and 2015. The county comprised about 0.5% of the state’s total gonorrhea diagnoses in 2019, and case counts countywide were close between men and women. Infections among men made up about 53% of the county’s total, compared to about 46% among women. Females aged 15 to 24 have consistently had more cases than any other age group of either sex.

Pennsylvania’s primary and secondary (P&S) syphilis infections spiked by more than 25% in 2019, and diagnoses in men were nearly 6.5 times higher than women statewide. Franklin County has consistently had low numbers of P&S syphilis diagnoses, with only seven cases reported in 2019. While this was an all-time high for the county, it still only accounted for less than 1% of the state’s total. P&S infections are much more prevalent in men countywide. Male cases typically make up 70% to 100% of the county’s total each year.
