Testing for STDs at home is safe, convenient, and private. Performed regularly, it can help you stay healthy and avoid unknowingly transmitting STDs.
You have many options for at-home STD testing. The best at-home STD tests are FDA approved and evaluated for safety and accuracy with fast result turnaround times and support from health care professionals.
At-home STD testing kits should include instructions for collection and test registration, along with materials such as containers and swabs to collect and send your sample to the lab. Most at-home STD tests offer results in about five days through a secure online patient portal.
Van Nuys is a neighborhood in the central San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles, which is in Los Angeles County. Out of the top 70 counties and independent cities ranked nationwide for the highest numbers of reported chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis infections, Los Angeles County ranked first across the board in 2018.
About 66% of all STD cases reported to the LA County Department of Public Health in 2018 involved chlamydia infections. Chlamydia cases were higher in women, with females accounting for 58% of the county’s total, and nearly 59% of these diagnoses were among adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 24. Males in LA County didn’t fare much better in 2018, with nearly 42% of chlamydia infections countywide in men, and about 34% of these diagnoses were among the 15 to 24 age group.
Of LA County’s total reported STDs in 2018, over one-quarter of all cases were gonorrhea infections. Diagnoses were nearly 2.5 times higher among men than women. Gonorrhea cases have increased in LA County every year since 2009, and the 15 to 24 age group has historically had the highest incidence of infection. Outbreaks among both sexes increased in 2018, but diagnoses among those aged 15 to 24 were down. Gonorrhea cases among women of all ages increased more than 3%, but females aged 15 to 24 saw a decrease of nearly 3%. Likewise, gonorrhea diagnoses among men rose over 5%, but cases among males aged 15 to 24 saw a drop of more than 3%.
Although syphilis diagnoses only made up 8% of LA County’s total STD cases in 2018, primary and secondary syphilis infections in the county nearly doubled between 2014 and 2018. Primary and secondary syphilis diagnoses were mostly within the male population in 2018, with cases in men comprising 90% of LA County’s total. Despite a lower number of P&S syphilis diagnoses among women, congenital syphilis cases among infants increased by more than 36% in 2018 alone.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) remain one of the most critical public health challenges facing the United States, with approximately 26 million new STD infections occurring every year. Nearly half of these new infections affect young people ages 15 to 24.
