Chlamydia infections in Clark County increased by more than 2.5% in 2019 and made up nearly 79% of Nevada’s total cases. The highest incidence of infection was among the 20 to 24 age group, which represented nearly 33% of the county’s total. The infection rate for this age group was the equivalent of more than 3% out of every 100,000 young adults within Clark County. However, there’s a higher prevalence of chlamydia diagnoses among women, and the infection rate among females was more than 4% out of every 100,000 women countywide. The 15 to 19 age group had the second-highest incidence of infection overall, comprising 21.9% of the county’s total.

In 2018, chlamydia diagnoses in Maricopa County rose over 4% compared to 2017, which translated to an overall increase of nearly 74% since 2008. Women accounted for 64% of all cases, and the 20 to 24 age group had more chlamydia infections than any other. Chlamydia infections in Maricopa County increased another 7% in 2019, but the county got a small reprieve in 2020 when cases dropped by more than 10%. Cases among women and young adults aged 20 to 24 remained prevalent in both 2019 and 2020.

Gonorrhea

Clark County reported an increase in gonorrhea diagnoses of nearly 3% in 2019, accounting for more than 83.5% of the state’s total. Gonorrhea infections among men were more than 1.5 times higher than among women countywide. The 20 to 24 age group had the highest incidence of infection overall, but the 25 to 29 age group had the greatest number of gonorrhea infections within the male population, while the 20 to 24 age group was in the top spot within the female population. Clark County placed 13th for its number of gonorrhea cases in 2019 compared to the top 70 counties and independent cities ranked nationwide, which was down from 12th place in 2018.

Syphilis

Primary and secondary syphilis infections in Clark County increased by more than 13% in 2019 and comprised nearly 78% of the state’s total P&S syphilis diagnoses in 2019. P&S syphilis cases among men were nearly five times more prevalent than among women. Men and women aged 25 to 29 had the highest incidence of P&S syphilis infections, making up 25% of the county’s total. However, men aged 30 to 34 made up the age group with the second-highest number of diagnoses among males, while adolescent females aged 15 to 19 were the age group with the second-highest number among women.

You must be a Nevada resident with proof of residency to receive free HIV testing and low-cost STD testing at the Center on Mondays through Thursdays, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can get free condoms and screenings for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis for $60, chlamydia and gonorrhea for $50, or syphilis for $10. Each STD test panel includes free HIV testing. STD treatment is available for $50. The Center accepts Medicaid and most insurance plans but offers a sliding fee scale if you’re uninsured.

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains

Planned Parenthood’s Las Vegas East Flamingo Clinic is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can receive low-cost HIV testing and chlamydia, gonorrhea, or genital warts testing and treatment. Condoms are $.60, female condoms are three for $6, and HPV vaccines are $240. The clinic accepts insurance but works with your budget if you don’t have insurance.
