Testing for STDs at home is safe, convenient, and private. Performed regularly, it can help you stay healthy and avoid unknowingly transmitting STDs.
You have many options for at-home STD testing. The best at-home STD tests are FDA approved and evaluated for safety and accuracy with fast result turnaround times and support from health care professionals.
At-home STD testing kits should include instructions for collection and test registration, along with materials such as containers and swabs to collect and send your sample to the lab. Most at-home STD tests offer results in about five days through a secure online patient portal.
Spokane is the second-largest city in Washington after Seattle and the largest city and seat of Spokane County. The most recent STD data available for Spokane County is for 2018, which indicates that chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are the three most reported STDs, and they’re more prevalent in individuals aged 18 to 34 countywide.
Chlamydia cases increased in Spokane County every year between 2011 and 2017 when diagnoses dipped by nearly 5%. However, this downward trend was a single occurrence as chlamydia infections rose by more than 13% in 2018. Although chlamydia diagnoses are higher among the 20 to 24 age group in both sexes, it is more prevalent among females across all age groups.
While Spokane County recorded significant spikes in gonorrhea cases in 2013 and 2014, diagnoses fell over the next two years. Gonorrhea cases fell slightly over 1% in 2015 and nearly 1.5% in 2016. Unfortunately, gonorrhea infections rose over the next two years, increasing 33.5% in 2017 and a smaller spike of more than 8.5% in 2018. Prevalence is higher among men overall, but not in every age group.
Syphilis infections in Spokane County increased significantly over a short four-year period, with cases in 2018 more than nine times higher than they’d been in 2014. Syphilis cases jumped 154.5% and 118% between 2015 and 2016, respectively. Fortunately, cases fell in the next two years from 31% to 30% in 2017 and 2018. Of the primary and secondary syphilis cases reported in 2019 statewide, Spokane County residents accounted for 16% of Washington’s total.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) remain one of the most critical public health challenges facing the United States, with approximately 26 million new STD infections occurring every year. Nearly half of these new infections affect young people ages 15 to 24.
Community-based organizations are a vital first line of defense in the fight against STDs and HIV/AIDS in particular. They generate awareness and foster social change while providing access to testing and treatment.
