Testing for STDs at home is safe, convenient, and private. Performed regularly, it can help you stay healthy and avoid unknowingly transmitting STDs.
You have many options for at-home STD testing. The best at-home STD tests are FDA approved and evaluated for safety and accuracy with fast result turnaround times and support from health care professionals.
At-home STD testing kits should include instructions for collection and test registration, along with materials such as containers and swabs to collect and send your sample to the lab. Most at-home STD tests offer results in about five days through a secure online patient portal.
Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are the three most reported STDs in Denton, which is a city in and the seat of Denton County. Statewide, the City of Denton ranked 26th among the 50 cities with the highest number of combined STD cases, and Denton County ranked in the top 20 for each of the STDs individually.
Denton County ranked 13th out of 254 Texas counties for its number of chlamydia diagnoses in 2018. However, the county accounted for less than 2% of the state’s total cases and saw chlamydia incidences drop by nearly 1%. Denton County’s infection rate for chlamydia has been substantially lower than the state’s overall rate for years. Historically, the county’s rate of chlamydia diagnoses has been higher in females than males, but the gap is getting narrower. Infection rates among the 15 to 24 age group continue to be significantly higher than those in other age groups. The City of Denton represented nearly 35% of the county’s total reported chlamydia cases in 2018.
Denton County saw gonorrhea cases drop by nearly 9% in 2018, but it still ranked 13th statewide for its number of diagnoses. The county comprised just over 1.5% of the state’s total gonorrhea cases in 2018. Denton County’s gonorrhea infection rates among men remain higher than those among women despite a spike in female instances in 2017, which tapered off by 2018. The 15 to 24 age group continued to have the highest rate of infection in the county. The City of Denton made up almost 36% of the county’s total cases in 2018.
Although total syphilis infections in Denton County dropped by more than 4% in 2018, the number of cases was still more than five times higher than in 2011. Total syphilis diagnoses steadily rose every year during these seven years, with 2018 marking the only year the county saw a decrease. Primary and secondary syphilis infections in Denton County also dropped by more than 15% in 2018. However, the county still ranked 16th statewide for its number of P&S syphilis diagnoses and ninth for total syphilis cases. The City of Denton accounted for over 36% of the county’s total P&S syphilis infections in 2018.
