At-Home STD Testing

Testing for STDs at home is safe, convenient, and private. Performed regularly, it can help you stay healthy and avoid unknowingly transmitting STDs.

You have many options for at-home STD testing. The best at-home STD tests are FDA approved and evaluated for safety and accuracy with fast result turnaround times and support from health care professionals.

At-home STD testing kits should include instructions for collection and test registration, along with materials such as containers and swabs to collect and send your sample to the lab. Most at-home STD tests offer results in about five days through a secure online patient portal.

Jupiter is located in northern Palm Beach County, where the frequency of STD diagnoses climbed steadily from 2010 through 2019. The county’s most commonly diagnosed STD during that decade was chlamydia, followed by gonorrhea and syphilis.

Chlamydia

Between 2010 and 2019, Palm Beach County saw an over 65% increase in the rate of chlamydia infections. This is a significantly steeper rise than the state overall, which reported a 32% increase during the same time period. Despite Palm Beach County’s spike in cases, it still trails Florida’s overall incidence of chlamydia, as seen in the chart below.

Throughout the decade, women in Palm Beach County were diagnosed with chlamydia at a consistently higher rate than men. In 2019, women made up more than 65% of diagnoses. A similar pattern was recorded nationwide and may be due to lower chlamydia testing among men.

Chlamydia Rates in Palm Beach County and Florida, 2006-2019

Gonorrhea

Palm Beach County recorded a 48% increase in gonorrhea infection rates between 2010 and 2019. However, the steady rise in cases shows some signs of leveling off, with just a 1.5% increase between 2018 and 2019. The state as a whole experienced a much larger spike in gonorrhea cases: From 2010 through 2019, Florida’s gonorrhea incidence rose by 63%.

In 2010, Palm Beach County men and women had similar gonorrhea incidences, but by 2019, men were diagnosed at nearly twice the rate of women. A similar pattern was seen statewide, which may indicate more transmission among men or increased gonorrhea testing.

Syphilis

Syphilis cases have surged nationwide over the last decade, and the Sunshine State is not exempt from this trend. The state’s infectious syphilis incidence soared by nearly 140% between 2010 and 2019. Palm Beach County’s infection rate was consistently lower than the Florida average during those years but still increased by 87%.

Palm Beach County owes this increase to soaring case rates among men. From 2010 to 2019, this rate more than doubled, while the syphilis incidence among women decreased by 20%. The county saw the greatest extent of diagnoses among those aged 30 to 34, followed by those in the 25 to 29 age group.

Cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are on the rise in the Jupiter area, and you can have these sexually transmitted infections without noticing any symptoms. They can be cured with medications but left untreated, serious health complications may result. To protect your health, visit one of the many STD testing clinics offering free or low-cost testing in the Palm Beach County area.
