Testing for STDs at home is safe, convenient, and private. Performed regularly, it can help you stay healthy and avoid unknowingly transmitting STDs.
You have many options for at-home STD testing. The best at-home STD tests are FDA approved and evaluated for safety and accuracy with fast result turnaround times and support from health care professionals.
At-home STD testing kits should include instructions for collection and test registration, along with materials such as containers and swabs to collect and send your sample to the lab. Most at-home STD tests offer results in about five days through a secure online patient portal.
Huntington Beach is a seaside city in Orange County in Southern California, about 35 miles from Downtown Los Angeles. Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis also rose every year between 2014 and 2018, especially among the younger generations aged 15 to 24.
Although chlamydia infections in Orange County only increased about 2% in 2018, this was the smallest increase recorded over the last several years. The county recorded increases of over 22% in 2015, nearly 13% in 2016, and more than 9% in 2017. Despite the gradually falling increments of increase, infections continue rising and diagnoses among women remain higher than men. This is especially true of young females aged 15 to 24, whose case numbers and infection rates are higher than any other age group of either gender. The chlamydia infection rate has been over 2,000 per every 100,000 females in this age group since 2015.
Among all age groups and sexes, gonorrhea diagnoses in Orange County more than doubled between 2014 and 2018, but still only accounted for 5% of California’s overall total. Despite larger increases in gonorrhea diagnoses among females compared to males in both 2017 and 2018, gonorrhea cases and infection rates were twice as high in men as women in Orange County in 2018. Diagnoses among young women aged 15 to 24 are also increasing faster than men in this age group, but male cases still comprised over 18% of the county’s total in 2018 while female cases represented just over 15%.
Total syphilis diagnoses in Orange County went up by about 12% in 2018, but primary and secondary syphilis infections rose more than 22%. Although P&S syphilis cases are more than 12 times more prevalent among men than women, diagnoses among females rose more than 83% in 2018 while male cases rose about 19%. This marked the largest increase in female cases over the past five years, but the gap between the sexes remains huge as men still accounted for over 92.5% of Orange County’s P&S syphilis infections in 2018. Reported early non-primary non-secondary syphilis infections were 10 times higher in men than women.
