Chlamydia is prevalent in San Diego, with the CDC reporting a rate of 656.5 in the San Diego-Carlsbad region compared to the national rate of 539.9 and California rate of 585.3. Between 2014 and 2018, the rate of chlamydia in California increased from 590.5 per 100,000 residents to 714.0. This infection is mainly reported in females, who account for 61% of the 231,415 cases reported in California in 2018.
California ranks 14th in the nation for its gonorrhea rate, which is 200.3 per 100,000 people. The rate of this infection in the San Diego area is a little lower at 185.3, with 6,184 of the state’s 79,192 reported cases being diagnosed in this region. Between 2014 and 2018, the number of reported cases in the San Diego area increased by 81%, and the rate increased by 77%.
Syphilis is a major public health concern in California and has increased across the state, including in San Diego. In most cases, this STD is diagnosed in males, though the number of reported cases among females has increased substantially in the last decade. In 2018, of the 7,621 reported cases of primary and secondary syphilis in California, nearly 75% were diagnosed in those between the ages of 20 and 44.
While some STDs are accompanied by uncomfortable or painful symptoms, many who carry sexually transmitted infections have no symptoms. Even STDs that don’t have obvious symptoms can cause a lot of damage to the body. Left untreated, asymptomatic STDs can increase the risk of infertility, cause birth defects, spread to sexual partners, cause some types of cancer, and make you more susceptible to HIV. While some STDs may resolve on their own, many can only be cured with antibiotics. Regular STD testing is the most reliable way to ensure sexual health and treat STDs before they cause serious problems.

Upfront pricing is provided, and results are typically available within three business days. While the clinic doesn’t provide STD treatment, it can connect clients who test positive with local agencies that do provide treatment.
